In several mountainous areas of the country, the snowfall returned last night after a cooling of the temperatures.
The road authority ARRSH announces that on the northern road axes Hani i Hoti – Tamare, Bogë – Theth, Ura e Zapodi – Shishtavec, Bulqizë – Peshkopi and Boboshticë – Dardë, during the night and in the early hours of the morning, snowfall has returned with medium intensity.
The snow removal vehicles are working to clean the road and distribute salt while there are no reported problems in traffic.
Officials recommend road users to move at a reduced speed, due to the moisture, to use winter tires in areas with snowfall, and to respect instructions and road signs.
The territory of the municipality of Shkodër in the northwest of Albania was affected by snowfall at an altitude of over 1300 meters.
This morning the district of Bulqiza in the northeast was covered by snow, mainly in the mountainous areas in the administrative units of Ostren, Trebisht, Gjoricë, Shupenzë and Martanesh.
Snowfall has also occurred at the height of 700 meters above sea level in the city of Bulqiza. Meanwhile, no problems are reported on the roads of the administrative units, and the rains have not brought any problems to agricultural crops.
Areas above 800 m are covered by snow in the entire district of Gjirokastra, in the southern tip of the country. The Çajupi pass towards Zagoria has about 5 cm of snow, but it is passable for the vehicles travelling through the villages of the province.
Snow has also covered the mountainous areas of Elbasan district in central Albania, but there are no problems for movement on the roads, the officials announce.
