Albania is endangered by the West Nile Fever which is already
circulating in neighboring countries, such as Greece and Italy. However,
the Public Health Institution confirms that not a single case has been
registered so far in Albania.
“Albania is in a danger zone, but we are monitoring, especially for its worst cases, such as meningitis or encephalitis. There have been four cases in Greece, one in Italy and one in Israel”, said Silva Bino from the PHI.
The virus is spread by mosquito bites, insects that have a large presence in Albania. If these insects contact infected birds, they can spread the virus to people as well.
The West Nile Fever has high fever, feeling weak, headaches, vomiting and limb pains. It may appear with skin rashes, and in worst case scenarios, even with encephalitis, meningitis and paralyze.
