Ilir Meta, leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration, biggest
ally of the Socialist Party government, said there are efforts to create
artificial tensions before elections.

Although he didn’t mention any specific name, the declaration came just before the protest planned by the opposition. He also said that he agreed with the opposition for having an electoral reform, but…

“I want to underline that we need to complete the electoral reform as soon as possible, with changes that reflect the recommendations of OSCE-ODIHR. Certainly, we also want the decriminalization process to continue, which is another obligation and standard for the next elections”, Meta said.

He added that preparations for elections should not shift attention away from key reforms, the judiciary and electoral ones, which are a condition for starting the accession negotiations.

SMI is entering the aggressive preparation phase for the elections of June 18th, although they have not declared yet which party they will be running with.
