The Socialist Party condemned the court order to close Top Channel’s
studios at the “Shqiperia Sot” building, through the chairwoman of the
Parliamentary Commission for the media, Valentina Leskaj.
“Berisha is closing his political career by trying to shut the voice of the media, with this attack against Top Channel”, Leskaj declared.
“After failing to shut this TV station with his mafia-style attacks, the Prime Minister is using his corrupted courts to violate abusively all agreements signed with the government”, the Socialist MP stated.
According to Leskaj, “attacks against the media are one of the main reasons why Berisha will not be voted on June 23rd”.
“Unfortunately, Top Channel is not the only TV station that faced such mafia style attacks, since all free media outlets have felt the government pressure through direct and economic threats. On the other hand, the media outlets that support the government are compensated with public ads and other funds.
Leskaj spoke about the harsh reactions from Brussels and the European media associations, which condemned this event in Albania, although these appeals fell in Berisha’s deaf ears, according to Leskaj.
