SP boycotts parliament

After two months, the Albanian Parliament gathered again for a plenary session.

As warned, the opposition boycotted the session. But two SP deputies,
Andis Harasani and Kaastriot Islami did not respect this decision of
their party. The latter even said that he is not for or against anyone,
but he is participating in this session for Albania’s EU integrity.

While the deputies continued to discuss about the Tirana-Elbasan
project, Prime Minister Sali Berisha spoke only about May 8th elections.

Berisha declared that citizens transformed these elections in a
celebration day for dignity and freedom, turning it into an historical
day for the Albanian justice.

According to Berisha, the victory of the right centered alliance with
17% votes more than the opposition is a great responsibility for the
government. The Prime Minister compared the post-election situation with
a theatre.

“For two weeks, our country has been looking like an absurd theatre. The
Albanian citizens voted in the most dignified way on May 8th, but the
next day, the Central Election Commission was surrounded, roads were
blocked and we heard ultimatums and threats all over the place, because
someone doesn’t want to recognize the citizens’’ vote. We wait with
patience and trust the decision of the constitutional institutions”,
Berisha declared.

After giving examples of the ballot recounting process in other
countries, Berisha mentioned the miscast vote of the Albanian President,
Bamir Topi.

“The President himself cast the vote in the wrong box. What would
Albanians say if CEC would not have opened the ballot box for counting
his vote? They would say that if they would not be able to see the
President’s vote, no one would care about them”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister guaranteed the Albanians that his party’s only
intention is to count the vote of every citizen and nothing more.

Ï invite Rama to declare that he is waiting the Electoral College
decision with patience, to bring proofs for his pretenses that justice
has been infringed, instead of damaging the process “with such
unscrupulous actions”, Berisha declared.

The Parliament continued its work by approving with 73 votes the Tirana-Elbasan highway loan.
