Edi Rama and Ilir Meta held their first meeting after the June 23rd
elections, which lasted 30 minutes. The meeting was held behind closed
doors, but the Socialist Party published the details on their website.
According to this press statement, Rama and Meta met to discuss the
government responsibilities.
They agreed that the Socialist leader will be the next Prime Minister, as decided by the first meeting of the Albanian Parliament on September, while Meta will be Parliament Speaker.
Rama and Meta agreed that none of the Parliament Members will lead any of the ministries, a promise that Rama made during the electoral campaign and that he reiterated during the interview on Top Channel’s “Top Story”, this Thursday.
It was decided to establish a joint working group, led by the Socialist Party Secretary for the Program, Ilir Beqja, and the Socialist Movement for Integration Leadership member, Edmond Haxhinasto. This group will start working with a detailed plan for the first 300 days, which will be published on September. This group will establish contacts with the groups of interest, together with domestic and foreign experts.
In this meeting they also discussed about keeping the communication with the Azerbaijani representatives and create a Task Force for a full support of the TAP project. This task force will follow the preparatory phase of the project and will organize a cooperation with the partners in this process.
Meta and Rama raised concerns about the fact that the incumbent government is not continuing just the two-month care of the government, but they are keeping an inertia of what has not been on the country’s best interest.
The two leaders of the winning coalition appealed the Prime Minister for responsibility, in order to avoid steps that fall against the ethics of a government in these conditions. They asked that new procurements should stop and no decisions about new concessions should be taken. The administration should not be involved in illegal actions with last minute damages on the state budget.
They also reiterated the need to give to our country a governing team that will bring a new model of behavior and action in the governing process, and a new comprehensive model in the parliament, which could bring cooperation not only with the opposition, but also with the society and the lawmaking process.
They agreed to form a government by listening to the propositions made by the left coalition.
