Many things didn’t go as planned during these four years of ruling coalition between the parties led by Edi Rama and Ilir Meta.
However, a meeting held this Sunday seems to have worked out for a new coalition between the two leaders.
The four-hour-long meeting weren’t easy with both parties trying to refresh the agreement for a second ruling term.
Ilir Meta was accompanied by Petrit Vasili, while Edi Rama by Erion Veliaj, who appears for the first time as the man who has helped keeping the relation between both parties. Since Veliaj has good relations with Ilir Meta, he may be a guarantee for the new agreement between SP and SMI.
Last night’s meeting was held near Tirana’s traditional bazaar, recently reconstructed by Mayor Veliaj, a work that he would have not been able to realize without the votes and cooperation of the Socialist Movement for Integration.
The new meeting between Rama and Meta came a few hours after the Socialist Party Assembly had strongly applauded the promise to win elections without SMI.
However, Luan Rama from the SMI, and Saimir Tahiri from the SP, who kept a conflict going recently, do not seem updated with the new reality.
Former Minister of Interior Saimir Tahiri said that the Socialist Party would win together with the people of Albania, without any other force.
Luan Rama answered to journalists: “What agreement. Who told you there is an agreement? Were you present at last night’s dinner?”
However, Top Channel learned that in this meeting, Edi Rama and Ilir Meta agreed to exclude the technical government as an option for consensus with the opposition. However, they are open to discuss an electoral reform, which may need time to enter in effect even beyond the election date.
