Jamarbër Malltezi, the son-in-law of former Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who previously held the post of Head of Environment in the opposition Democratic Party, was arrested on Saturday evening at Rinas airport in Tirana.

Witnesses saw the police accompany Mr. Malltezi when he arrived at the airport to travel abroad, while Top Channel learns that the arrest was made by order of the SPAK prosecutor’s office.

The court has set the measure of “imprisonment” for Malltezi, who is suspected of money laundering and corruption, and ordered the seizure of all his assets.

In addition to the arrest of Malltezi, the court imposed an obligation to appear for former democratic prime minister Sali Berisha, and businessman Fatmir Bektashi.

Jamarbër Malltez is accused of corruption, along with Berisha and corruption in collaboration with Fatmir Bektashi.

The main file with which the name of Malltezi is connected and for which he has been reported, is that of the privatization of the premises of the former sports club “Partizani” in Tirana.

The lawsuit for this file was initially made by the Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, at the time when Balla was the head of the socialist parliamentary group.

At that time, Malltezi was summoned by the SPAK prosecution and questioned, while now the Special Prosecution seems to have found enough evidence to arrest the son-in-law of the former prime minister, who turns out to be one of the main owners of the buildings that have erased the traces of the Partizani sports complex.

The property is about 10,000 m2 in the center of Tirana that was privatized in 2008 with a symbolic value of 100,000 dollars.

The “Partizani” sports club was the most important sports complex owned by the Ministry of Defense, not far from the center of Tirana, where now 17 residential towers have been erected.
