Solar energy, a problem for Albania’s Energy Distribution Operator

05/10/2018 17:06

Issuing permits for solar power plants or for consumers who install solar panels, is turning into a technical and financial problem for the Energy Distribution Operator (OSHEE).

The production of this type of energy requires depositing capacities that the Operator does not have, especially for low-tension lines.

The second problem is financial. OSHEE is bound to buy energy from solar panels for at least 15 years, with a price of 100 EUR per MW. That is going to affect the final price that OSHEE offers to the public.

10 permits have been issued so far for building solar plants with a production power of 2MW. The government has also started a bid for building the biggest solar plant in Balkan, in Akerni, Vlora.
