Sociologists say there are many people who have been affected by
dependency from gambling games, which are present in every neighborhood
of Albania. Thousands of citizens lose significant amounts of money with
the hope to find their luck.

The social consequences of gamble might turn into a big economic and social trap that directly affects their families.

“Some of them have ended up to suicide, because they have created conflicts and debts that cannot be resolved anymore”, says sociologist Gezim Tushi.

Hundreds of families were torn apart after one member has lost everything in gambling shops, by putting in danger the future of their children.

“These individuals are destructive to their families, and even go towards violence against their wives and children. People who have dependency on gambling bring poverty to their homes, which then brings other consequences”, Tushi declared.

Sociologists say that the new law deserves support not only from the state but also from citizens.

Curing gambling dependency is difficult. The decision to build them far from residential areas and raising the allowed age to 21 is expected to bring positive influence.
