The Socialist Parliamentary Group has submitted a request to Parliament
through which they demand the repeal of the motorboat moratorium, which
stays in power since 3 April 2006.
The request that was previously announced by MP Artan Gaci was submitted in Parliament on the verge of the tourist season. The Socialist MPs say that six years have passed since the motorboat moratorium was established, and although there was a reduction of the drug traffic, especially in the first period, the moratorium had destructive and paralyzing effects for the maritime tourism.
“This law limits the human rights and could be justified in the first three years, a period that should serve for reinforcing the respective state structures that should take the situation under control”, the document states.
“The renewal of this moratorium for other three years is unjustified, considering that we are speaking about a NATO member country. In the recent two years we have noted that other methods have been used for traffic, making the moratorium ineffective”, the document adds.
The document also argues that in 2007 was approved the law for the tourist ports, the spirit and purpose of which is in open conflict with the moratorium of motor boats.
“From the tourist point of view, the existence of the moratorium, besides the negative effects, has created a perception of insecurity among the international community. We are on the verge of the tourist season, and it would be a great help for all operators to repeal the motorboat moratorium”, the document adds.
“We demand the repeal of law 10220 of 4 February 2010, and for giving enough time to the police to be prepared, it could enter in act on 1 June 2012.”
