Snowfall starts the north of Albania, drivers are cautioned to install wheelchains

Several northern regions of the country have seen heavy snowfall today.

The Albanian Road Authority informs that they are working in the road axes: Kukës-Krumë and Kukës-Ura e Zapoti, in the road segment Dushaj-Sheshi i Trageteve-Lekbibaj at an altitude of over 700m, in Qafë Thore, in Vau i Dejes-Pukë-Kukës , Fushë Arrëz-Qafë Mali-Kukës, Bajram Curri-Valbonë, Ura Bujan-Qafë Morinë-Tropojë-Shipshan-Sopot-Kërnaje, Bajram Curri-Fierzë.

Work is also underway to keep the Bogë – Theth road axis open, to serve tourists in this area.

In the district of Dibra, snowfall has fallen up to 400 meters above sea level, including the towns of Peshkopia and Bulqiza. Some road axes have become impassable, such as the Peshkopi-Maqellar-Bulqizë road: Bulqizë-Ura e Vashë-Qafë Murrizë;

Also, the bypass-Qafë Murrizë road axis has become impassable.

As a result of the snowfall, there was also a car accident in Bulqiza, where the road was blocked for over an hour.

The snowfall has also covered the mountainous areas in the district of Elbasan. In Stebleva i Librazhdi, the thickness of the snow has reached up to 20 cm.

It is reported that Rruga e Arbërit Bypass is also blocked and the officials are working to unblock it.

Drivers are advised to keep winter tires and wheelchains when traveling to road segments indicated, to reduce speed, and to respect road signage.

Today the weather is mostly clear but cold. Air temperatures will drop slightly in the minimum values, but their significant decrease is expected in the maximum values, fluctuating the daily values from the lowest 2°C to the highest 14°C in the country.
