SMI, Rama: Ministers are not untouchable

10/08/2011 11:25

The Socialist Movement for Integration changes in the government
representation will be materialized for the objectives of the general
elections 2013.

SMI General Secretary, Luan Rama explains for “Shqip” newspaper the reasons of the most recent discussion in their party, which takes in consideration the party’s government representation and not the conjunctures that are perceived by the public. According to him, the analysis will be very thorough and will serve to the party as an essential principle in their decisions for making these changes.

What’s your opinion about the debate that has started recently within SMI, regarding the changes in the government?

First of all, allow me to state that your question, formulated as “a debate within SMI for changes in the government” reflects a wrong perception of our discussion for analyzing the performance of all SMI representatives in all government levels, therefore, not only ministers. Secondly, analyzing the work of SMI ministers in the government after two years is something very normal and effective for the party and our ministers too. As I said, the idea for making an overall analysis regards the general context of the elections analysis which will be conducted in all levels of our party, and this starts in September 10th. Thirdly, the debate is an essential value in all SMI activity. There is nothing wrong if we make a debate within colleagues, regardless their different opinions about a specific matter. SMI doesn’t fear debate, because we don’t have taboos. Even in the last meeting of our National Committee, we highlighted the need of detailed analyzes, the need for debate and the changes that are needed for making improvements, in order to reach new victories in 2013.

There is a perception that this is being made for rivalry between candidates of government seats. What does this change consist of, besides the qualities of special individuals?

As I said before, this is a wrong perception. It is not a matter of rivalry, but of how can SMI give its best for winning the next elections. We will make a thorough analysis, and only after that we will realize what we must change. And the changes are not necessarily connected with the name of the ministers, who naturally are not untouchable. This whole process is based on a principle, it is not personalized.
