SMI: “Radars weren’t working when drug traffic increased”

09/10/2017 13:50

The vice leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Luan Rama,
declared that the seven radars controlled by the Albanian Marine Forces and 11 others controlled by the Police have not been functional since 2014, which,
according to SMI, coincides with the increased traffic of cannabis.

“It is not by chance that the monitoring systems were not working during the 2016-2017 period”, Rama said.

To remove Albania from the blacklist of countries in which there is drug traffic, Rama proposed a series of hearing sessions with the Security Commission, with the purpose to improve the situation.

During his speech he also greeted the initiative of the Minister of Interior, Fatmir Xhafaj, and of the Defense Minister, Olta Xhacka, to establish a joint-group related to the monitoring of the marine space.
