Small businesses close shops, protest against being included in the VAT system

Small businesses in Tirana responded to the appeals for closing their shops for one hour.

Salesmen at the Medrese Market, Tirna, closed the shops in sing of protest for being included in the VAT system.

Those at the Electric Market and the Cham Market also joined the protest.

There were protests in other parts of Tirana as well.

The Kamza market closed for one hour, together with other businesses in Durres and Korca.

They refuse to pay VAT, which was included since April 1st.

MPs from the Democratic Party and SMI joined the salesmen during the protest.

The opposition leader said that the reason why the VAT systemis being applied for small businesses is a PPP project for having VAT collected by private companies.

Basha even accuses that the company will be related to the Prime Minister’s family.

According to Basha, VAT adds almost nothing positive to the budget but the cost on citizens is huge.
