Small business owners are about to hold another protest this Tuesday.
They refuse to pay VAT, a new scheme that was applied to them from April 1st.
There have been several protests last week, but an organized appeal comes from Tirana this Tuesday.
“This reform will close 25,000 to 30,000 businesses during the first semester, 50,000 in total after the second one”, small businesses say.
Nikollaq Neranxi, from the Association for Salesmen and Market Protection, said that they should take the bills and tear them “in front of the bloodsuckers. If we stay united, we will be able to stop Edi Rama”, he said.
The opposition will join the protest, which has been appealing businesses to not pay VAT, as a form of civilian disobedience.
Basha is convinced that Rama is doing this because he plans to privatize the VAT collection through his family members.
According to Basha, the government’s profit from this tax is minimal, and the real cost is paid by citizens.
