Small and large businesses, confused about pricing board decisions, cite lack of transparency

The government says that wholesale businesses that do not respect the board decisions on basket prices will be penalized with fines of up to 10 million ALL, while for small traders the value of the fine is 2 million ALL.

Repeated violations lead to closure until the seizure of goods, the government adds in the normative act that has already taken legal effect.

But even though it’s over 3 weeks since the board was created, there is still no transparent decision for the public?

For days, the ministers and the majority MPs have gone down in markets and supermarkets as price inspectors, while for the citizens there is still no official announcement from the board, on how much they should buy flour, sugar, oil or pasta.

The government vowed that by creating a transparency board it would not allow abuses at the expense of citizens.

But large businesses have received a letter from the tax authorities asking them to detail the price list of products and invoices for the sale of goods, and not instructions on how to determine them.

Even small traders, outside the cameras show that they have not yet received any instructions from the board, while complaining that sales have fallen, especially for cooking oil due to its strong price increase.

In a response to Top Channel, the Ministry of Finance states that the methodology that the board will follow has not been determined yet and work is underway to detail it in the coming days.
