A 38-year-old single mom from Bulqize appeals for financial help so that
she can realize an operation that will enable her provide for her two
children, show father has died.
Lule Sollaku’s husband emigrated to Greece six years ago, but he died in an accident. She was forced to work in the chrome stocks, close to her home, a single room in the former state apartment building for miners.
Same as many other women of this city, she collected chrome to sell it for a few bucks, just to feed her children. But this physically demanding and illegal work became the cause for a foot accident, which she hasn’t been able to cure for four years.
“It was a dark day for me. I was holding the coal I had collected and tried hiding from inspectors. I felt something breaking inside my leg. I have been in many hospitals without finding a solution. Tirana doctors told me I should operate my leg abroad. I went to Italy, to a cousin of mine, and doctors asked 8000 EUR for the operation. I don’t have the financial capabilities to guarantee this, because I live with only 79 USD per month, the pension for my children. Only medicaments cost 120 USD per month. Even this room doesn’t belong to me, it’s my brother’s. I often think about suicide, but who would bring my two children up? I am obliged to appeal for help so that I can make it possible for my two children to grow normally”, Lulja declared.
While she speaks, her younger son, Xhoni, who is nine years old and hasn’t gone to school, expressed his desire to make an appeal for help in front of the cameras. The situation became even more shocking for us when the nine years old, with tears in his eyes, said: “Please help my mom. I love her very much”, and then he started crying.
