Today, two of the accused, brothers Orik and Laert Shyti, reacted
against the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha after the Court found
that the so-called “Justice Revenge” criminal group may have never
existed.
“Maybe times have changed and Sali Berisha will not call even the judges ‘members of the Justice Revenge’ group. He will not be able to stop the verdict of the Supreme Court, which asys that the Justice Revenge has never existed. It was fabricated, together with the ‘platform’ and the apartment that was filled with guns by his servants. This and the Vetting Law are two of the reasons that he will not be able to call these judges members of the Justice Revenge”, the Shyti brothers say.
10 people were accused 21 years ago of being part of an organized criminal group called “Justice Revenge”, which was considered by the then Berisha government as responsible for several serious crimes between 1994 and 1996, such as the murder of the General Chief of police, and robberies against the former pyramid scheme companies, Vefa and Gjallica.
Two of the accused were kept in prison while the trial continued for decades. Eight others were sheltered in foreign countries as asylum seekers, after claiming that the accusations were made up by the Berisha government, which was facing popular rebellions at that time.
Today, after 21 years, the 10 members were acquitted by the Appeal Court for Serious Crimes, which ruled that the evidence were forged. This decision was based on the testimony of handwriting specialists, who said that the “platform” of the Justice Revenge group was not written by Altin Arapi, and that the writing was faked to make it look similar to his.
The former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, reacted today and said that the verdict was in fact forced by Edi Rama.
“I condemn this criminal act of Edvin Kristaq Rama. I appeal citizens to get together, stronger than ever, with lour democratic revolution that starts on February 18th. We must save ourselves, our children, our society and Albania from the ruling of his gangs”, Berisha said on Facebook.
Now acquitted, the Shyti brothers say they will never forgive Berisha for what he did them.
“I don’t know if he has understood it, but we will tell him once again that we will never forgive his crime against us, and we will never stop from defending ourselves”, the Shyti brothers declared.
