The workers of a shoe factory in Tirana have protested after they have not been paid for two months.
400 hundred workers who have been forced to work 7 days a week for a minimal salary with which they kept their families.
“I pay 17.000 ALL rent every month. My salary here is 20.000 ALL. I have a small child to raise. How can I survive when they don’t even pay me?”, a worker says.
“This is the second month that we have not been paid. We keep our families with this salary. We’re four in our family and I’m the only one who has got a job. We are forced to ask for free food at the corner store”, another worker says.
Some women say they work without insurance, and are often obliged to stay silent or they could be fired.
“We have worked overtime and now all we are asking is to get paid. Our children need to be fed”, another worker says.
The workers say they will continue their protest.
