Shkodra, the electoral stronghold of the Albanian Democratic Party, was taken by Valdrin Pjetri at the Mayoral race after he ran alone, with the DP boycotting the elections.
But his victory only seems to have marked the end of his political career, as the Democratic Party brought up a sentence in Italy for drug traffic, in his youth, which he had hidden away.
A few hours after the Democratic Party published the Italian document, Valdrin Pjetri lost the support of the Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, who distanced the party from him until justice institutions have made the proper verifications.
If this is proven, Pjetri will have to move away and Shkodra will have new elections. But the date for this must be given by the President, Ilir Meta, who doesn’t recognize June 30th as the local elections, consequently, neither does he recognize the Mayors that came out of this process.
