After religion had been denied to the Albanian population for 23 years,
the first catholic mass was held in Shkoder on November 4th 1990. The
25th anniversary of the famous mass led by Dom Simon Jubani was
commemorated today.

The Archibishop pf Shkoder, Angelo Massafra, said that “the courage of Dom Simon Jubani made religion spread again, laying this way the foundations for the celebration of November 11th, when a huge number of people gathered to the cemetery, and on November 16th, when our Muslim brothers took back the mosque, a symbol of their religion, also banned by the atheist totalitarian regime”, said Angelo Massafra.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, present in this mass, said that the cemetery is a station of the Albanian history, without which the history of Albania would lose its sense.

The opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, said on Facebook that the Mass of Dom Simon Jubani gave courage to devotees, and it was a direct hit to the heart of the communist regime.
