Serbians on Albanian properties

The problems of the Albanians with their properties in the Northern Kosovo apparently are not to be finished.

“Kroi i Vitakut” area has been transformed again into a problem arena, but this time more silently. The Ramadani family, from Suhodoll, complains that Northern Serbians are using their properties as if they owned it.

“They have cut trees and have opened holes in our property. The Serbians did this”, says Egzon Ramadani.

Kosovo Police was informed about this problem, but they have taken no concrete steps so far. The truth is that these lands, although belonging to the Albanians, haven’t been cultivated by them due to ethnical problems after the war.

Despite the economic difficulties, the residents of this area are resisting to the pressures and lucrative offers by the Serbs who want to buy them.

“This land has belonged to my great-grandfather, and it has fed my family for generations. Selling it now for a bunch of money, it is not worth it,” Ramadani added.

The problems of the Albanians, who own lands in the northern part of the city, do not end with Ramadan. The Kosovo Government has invested to return some families in north, but, as the residents tell us, life here is not safe.

“We do not feel safe. I was staying with my son in the yard, I was shot by the Serbians and the police did nothing”, says another resident, who prefers to remain anonymous.

Despite the complaints, it seems that the return at their proper homes is more important than any kind of harm that can be done to them by people who do not recognize the rule of law in this part of Kosovo.

Life in “Kroi of Vitaku” has started to take shape, while it is expected that very soon this will be a multiethnic neighborhood, because together with the Albanians, collective residential homes are being built for the Serbians.
