While Balkan diplomats are still involved in heated political debates,
Petar Popcev, a painter born in Serbia and raised in Macedonia, has
opened his art exhibit in Tirana.

“My parents come from the Greek side of Macedonia. They emigrated to Vojvodina, here I was born. I was three when we moved to Skopje. I graduated for arts at the Prishtina university. Art knows no violence, no hate, has nothing to do with politics. Art tells on lies. Different from politics, art is sincere”, Petar Popcev says.

There are 44 paintings with strong elements of Balkan folklores.

“These elements are decorative. They don’t have specific meanings. They simply show the art of Balkan. By moving to so many Balkan countries, I have been enriched a lot”, the painter says.

He dedicates this exhibit to his 3-year-old niece who lives in Tirana. Popcev says that this is his way to tell her bed-time stories through paintings.

“This exhibit is dedicated to my niece. Every painting has a title and a story. The titles are fictional, but all of the stories are true. Being a painter allows me to fantasize, but the stories are true, because I want to tell to my niece about life through paintings”, Popcev said.

He adds that his abstract paintings hide secrets which he would never tell to anyone, not even to the public. His exhibit will continue on the FAB gallery until February 13th.
