Brussels warned Serbia and Macedonia of risking to have the EU visa regime reestablished, since they have failed to stop the flux of people who ask asylum. Since the visa liberalization in December 2009, Belgium and Sweden have been complaining that Serbian and Macedonian citizens have abused with the
free travel rights.
Belgian minister of emigration, Melshoir Uatelet declared that his country can accept less than 1% of the asylum requests received by these two Balkan countries.
“It will not be very positive for Serbia and Macedonia when the flux of abusive asylum seeking people remains high”, Uatelet declared.
