After an intensive high-level dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo,
mediated by the EU in Brussels, Belgrade accepted to demolish the
Mitrovica wall, as confirmed by the Serbian Prime Minister himself,
Alexandar Vucic.

During a meeting with representatives of the Serbian List and the Mayor of Northern Mitrovica, Goran Rakic, the Serbian Prime Minister said the Mitrovica Mayor would bring the wall down not because of fear, but for their dedication to peace.

Vucic insisted that the commune is completely under Rakic’s control, and Kosovo laws will not be valid. But the wall, he added, would be brought down for peace.

Dozens of Serbs gathered near the wall, right after learning that it would be demolished. Several Kosovo police officers and Italian carabineers surrounded the area.

Before Vucic met with the Northern Mitrovica Mayor, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, appealed him to abandon old-style propaganda that encouraged fear and ethnic hate among Northern Kosovo Serbs.
