In a long declaration held in front of the media, a few minutes after
meeting with the Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission, Lefteri
Lleshi, the Ambassador of the European Union in Albania, Ettore Sequi,
gave the message that it is not late to create a complete Central
Election Commission.

“We expect the Albanian politicians to
complete the Central Election Commission. As Baroness Ashton and the
Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefa Fule have said, we need a better
solution for all parties. It is never too late to guarantee a complete
Central Election Commission. This is related to the trust that the
electors have in this process, such as the role of the parties and
leaders who need to ensure two things: a process that the Albanians can
trust, and to guarantee that the politicians will accept the result.
This is a message that Mr.Reeker gave yesterday and I want to share it
with you. We and the United States are on the same line about this
isssue”, Sequi declared.

To support the message that the
elections are key for the process that will send Albania closer to the
European Union, Ambassador Sequi reiterated that the international
monitoring will be very strict during the voting, and especially during
the ballot count, where the European Union has mobilized funds for a
higher level of observers.

“All ambassadors of the 27 European
Union countries and the United States of America will be on terrain, and
for this reason he appeals the Albanian citizens for a large
participation in the voting”.

“It’s your obligation and right to vote”, Sequi declared.

To
the Question if the Central Election Commission will stay with four
members, Ettore Sequi answered: “Allow me to say it this way. It would
be easier with a complete Central Election Commission”.
