Conny McCormack, main observer of ODIHR, held her first meeting with the
head of European Union delegation in Tirana, Ettore Sequi, which lasted
about 50 minutes.

Sequi released a press statement right after the meeting, in which he valued the CV of Mrs. McCormack and declared that the European Union cannot be part of any negotiation that aims to resolve the Central Election Commission problems.

“We had a very good meeting with the head of the OSCE-ODIHR observing mission and I was very impressed by her experience and commitment. During our conversation I reiterated the strong support that the European Union gives to this mission. This is part of the European Union delegation commitment for having qualitative elections that can fulfill all european and international standards” the Ambassador declared.

Sequi announced the arrival of a group of European Union observers in Albania.

“We have decided the funds for supporting 32 short-term observers and 6 long-termed ones. This is a concrete support that is being realized with the money of the European taxpayers, because the elections are very important for the European Union. We want to give a good inspiration for these elections through this commitment”, Sequi declared.

Top Channel asked the ambassador about the efforts of the international community in Tirana and the European Union about resolving the stalemate at the Central Election Commission, after three members resigned.

“We are not part of the negotiations. However, we gave our opinion about the Central Election Commission, since it is a very strong pillar of the electoral process. There will be other potential declarations about this in the future”, Sequi declared.

However, Vulcanov, member of the Venice Commission, arrived in Albania one day after Ilirian Muho was removed from the Central Election Commission. McCormack, the head observer of the ODIHR, made the position of this mission very clear by refusing the comment the developments that are related with the Central Election Commission. The report that will be announced after two weeks is expected to focus more on this institution. / Top Channel
