Selami: “Basha’s list caused DP to lose. We need to win without SMI”

Eduard Selami, candidate for leader of the Democratic Party, said that the weak result in these elections was not unexpected.

“The result was lower than expected, but not surprising. There were sings of it, and with my critics I was trying to make them evident”, Selami said.

He explained that the list of candidates created by Lulzim Basha, was one of the reasons why the DP lost.

“My first concern was not about the names of the list. The list was made in a very personal way. There is a statute, and it is up to the National Council of the party to form the list, but it wasn’t done. And that’s how the ‘new republic’ ended”, Selami said.

Eduard Selami said that the judiciary reform placed the DP against western countries, and this, according to Selami, was a big gaffe from Basha.

“We had conflicts with the west, especially with America. The Democratic Party belongs to the western values and its electorate is clearly pro-American, pro-German and pro-west. When the electorate saw such conflicts, it was negatively affected”, Selami underlined.

Selami said that for the future, DP should not turn its eyes to a coalition with the SMI, but it must be prepared to win alone with more than 50% of the votes.

“We must turn to the right wing principles. I am note very enthusiastic about the SMI, with all respect for the coalition forces. We have abandoned our base. We need to win more than 50%”, he said.

Selami said that the competition for the leadership of the Democratic Party should be postponed, leaving times candidates to prepare.
