Again, the second round for the election of the Albanian President brought no surprises, no candidates, no voting.
Three things were different. There were no speeches, and this was the first concrete result from the Berisha-Rama meeting, which has had a silent pact of no attacks, until they consume all efforts for finding the president.
The other change from the first round was the absence of Prime Minister Berisha in the session without a candidate. The second change was that this round didn’t last more than three minutes, which were sufficient for the MPs to sit and the Parliament Speaker announce the absence of a candidate to vote.
The MPs will have less work this Thursday, and besides the Parliamentary routine, they will have to decide the third election round.
The Conference of Chairmen had no consensus, because the opposition asked to set Monday June 11th, while the majority chose Friday. Since the majority has unity for Friday, the voting will be a mere formality.
In fact, since the majority seems united for this Friday, the voting seems just formality. The third round, according to the Constitutional Formulation, is the last round when the parties are obliged to find consensus.
The leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Ilir Meta, declared for Top Channel that the President can still be elected with consensus and that the parties have the will for finding a solution.
“This process needs an interactive opposition that proposes a presidential candidate. The majority is not refractory for the propositions that might come from the opposition”, Meta declared.
Meta underlined that Xhezair Zaganjori is a candidacy of the majority. He added that a person rarely has so many abilities that are needed for a decent president.
The SMI leader added that there was a positive step this Sunday, but if the Berisha-Rama meeting would have been held earlier, and if Rama’s editorial wouldn’t have been published, the consensual President would have been elected earlier.
