The representatives of minorities at the Parliament of Kosovo are asking
for the reserved seat at the Parliament of Kosovo should continue to be
there for them.
This request is not included in the Ahtisaari package, and goes against the Constitution of Kosovo, since the reserved seats were predicted for two mandates only.
However, the Serbian representatives declared that their request is also being supported by the international factor.
The Minister of Social Welfare, Nenad Rasic, declared that their goal is to guarantee support in the political, parliamentary and government levels by the representatives of the majority, in order to propose a Constitutional amend.
According to Minister Rasic, the request will be sent at the Constitutional Court. He says that the situation created after the local elections in north should be used to integrate the Serbian community in the institutional life and to guarantee Kosovo’s representation.
The Kosovo legislature has 25 Parliament Members from minorities, 20 of whom had their seats reserved, while five were elected by the people.
Through this way they will make possible for the minority communities to have the rights of reserved seats in Parliament, and those who are elected should be added to this number. The request of the Serbian representatives has been opposed by the Kosovo political parties.
