After the murder in Elbasan of a person who had been arrested for
robbery but was then released by the Court of First Instance, the
Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, declared for Top Channel’s evening
news show “Revista Televizive”, that a wide public debate is needed for
making all institutions accountable for the abusive court decisions.
“A healthy public debate regarding the court verdicts that can be considered at least ‘overly liberal’, for not saying that many of them are absurd and without a legal logic, will be of good use for the society especially in this moment. ”, the Minister declared on a live phone interview.
Only a few weeks ago, Minister Tahiri sent to the President, Bujar Nishani, a list of court verdicts that he considered abusive, since they have set free dangerous people. The Minister said that he will keep informing the President for these cases.
“I have ordered that the Police structures in our local districts should make a monthly review. I will try to let the public know each month – together with official notifications to the Minister of Justice and the President, as the Chairman of the High Council of Justice – about decisions that for us are way too liberal by even reaching absurd and illegal levels”, the Minister declared.
