Gas stations in Albania sell low quality gas and petrol. This concern,
raised by the media regarding the sale of gas with harmful substances,
was admitted by the Minister of Energy and Industry, Damian Gjiknuri,
who declared that the government will inspect every oil processing
implant in our country.
“We will formalize all refinery implants, or processing implant, that have worked illegally so far, without any inspection or standard, often mixing crude oil with other products and launching them in the market. They sell them to industrial consumers or clients in gas stations. This law reviews the licensing of these companies”, declared Damian Gjiknuri, Minister of Energy and Industry.
The changes of the law for fuels foresees stronger measures for law violators and the publishing of names of fraudelent subjects.
“This was a weak point, like fines that often were not implemented, and the possibility to remove licenses. Many of these subjects are still continuing their activity. The citizens didn’t know who these subjects were, and fell prey of this fraud for the products launched in the market. With this law we will have the possibility to publish all names of abusers”, Damian Gjiknuri declared.
The representatives of fuel associations say that fuel quality problem is at the local oil, which, according to them, cannot be processed. They want stronger licensing criteria and more inspection from respective authorities.
“The new law should have conditions like in Europe, adopted to our country, and very strict. If the permit had a higher cost, it would be even more expensive for one who has lost it. We propose to make a stronger reinforcement of the tables. 99% of the fuels are lying with their signs, writing about products they don’t even sell”, declared Luigh Aliaj, from the Fuel Association.
“When interest groups have strong suspicions on the product quality, they must have the right to demand the inspectors to take a sample in their presence. And they should have the right to pay and cover all costs for the tests to be realized even in labs outside Albania. We have nothing against this”, declared Gjergj Bojaxhi, from the fuel association.
