The arrest of two young men in Diber this Tuesday brought the police to
destroy a structured criminal group that was stealing jewelry shops
throughout the country and laundered their money in Tirana.
One of the arrested suspects is Ilir Kupa, who was mentioned one year as member of the
“Santa Claus Gang” who robbed a jewelry shop in a Tirana mall.
The investigations showed that Kupa was working with seven other members of this gang. One of them, Milaj Elezi, was killed during a robbery in Macedonia in August 2014. Four others are on the run.
The details of this event were given this Wednesday by the Vice Chief of State Police, Altin Qato.
“We have finalized the Santa Claus operation. We arrested three members of this criminal group who are responsible for a series of jewelry stores throughout the country and even abroad. They are Ilir Kupa, Hajdar Sefa and Augustin Sula. Kupa was leader pf the gang. During the operation the police seized weapons, masks and valuable objects that were stolen. The investigative materials were sent to the Prosecution of Serious Crimes for further proceedings, under the accusation of organizing a structures criminal group and for violent robbery”, Qato declared.
