After his candidacy as Chairman of the Supreme State Audit was rejected
by 75 votes, Sali Shehu, former Democratic Party MP, says that the
reasons are closely connected with the Prime Minister Berisha. According
to him, the main motive is personal.
“If of this decision would be motivated by the fact that I am a good friend of the President Bamir Topi, I would say that this is a poor political reasoning. I call it a politically motivated decision, because I was not allowed to lead an institution that guards the management of the public money”, Shehu declared.
The second reason of the refusal, according to Shehu, is completely political and is related with the fear that the Prime Minister has from the vote leaking from the majority.
This argument, according to Shehu, is supported on the fact that the procedure for his name was open, against the law, and with a double standard, because a few minutes later, the majority used secret voting for the members of the Supervisory Council of Bank of Albania.
“This is a clear violation of the Constitution. The Democratic Party leadership would lose its majority, if the voting would be secret”, Shehu declared.
Although he lost the battle with his own political group, Shehu will not abandon the Albanian right wing, but only the leader Berisha.
“I cannot accept the harsh rhetoric used by Berisha in Parliament and other places, not only for his age, but also for his position; a language that is totally against the appeals made by the international community. The philosophy of the Democratic Party is not what used to be”, declared the former Democratic MP, Sali Shehu.
