36 airplanes and 4 helicopters that were to be sold in an auction,
inherited by the dictatorship period, are part of a Russian-Chinese
fleet that have been out of order for several times. These airplanes
will be sold to museums or collectors.
A huge demand has caused the government to postpone the auction. The Ministry said that the presentation will be held on February 22nd, with an initial price evaluation from 8000 to 13.000 EUR.
Some of these airplanes were sold for scrap, others are kept at the military airfield near the Rinas Airport. The rest are in Gjader and Kucova, now turned into a burden for the Albanian government.
The Minister of Defense said that these airplanes will bring revenues that will be used only for modernizing the army.
The Ministry expects to profit around 450.000 EUR from the airplanes.
