January was a successful month for Albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu, whose fame just reached as far as Australia.

His performance as the Pastor on the “King Roger” opera was received very well by Austrialian music specialists, who praised his talent.

After the performance, Pirgu shared his emotions with Top Channel through a phone conversation.

“It is the first time I come here. I am very excited, because it was a debut. The show had good reception by the public and critics as well. So, we can say the first phase for reaching to the Australian audience was a success. We will see if Sydney’s Opera will host other productions”, Pirgu said.

A few days before the Grammy Awards, Pirgu says that he has already won his trophy, since he is the first Albanian singer ever to be nominated for such a competition, the “Best Opera Recording” category.

“We have achieved what we wanted just by knowing that the production was nominated. This production was received well in London and in another continent too, which proved it was successful”, the Albanian tenor says.

Pirgu and “King Roger” will perform on Sydney’s Opera until mid February.
