The Russian Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander, Karpushin, said that the name issue with Macedonia should be a decision coming from the people.

He encourages Macedonia to not rush things and become a NATO member.

“The decision for joining the NATO and EU should be up to the people of Macedonia. Even if they decide it in parliament, this could cause strong division among the people. As for the possible interventions of Russia, these are unfounded accusations. Russia has no reason to act like that. We are convinced that the matters will be resolved with the free will of the people. Russia is not against the accession in the EU of any country, may that be Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina. If it is the will of the people, they are free for their decisions”, the Ambassador declared.
