Russian embargo, Panariti: “Political decision without economic impact”

The Minister of Agriculture, Edmond Panariti, declared for Top Channel
that the Russian embargo to Albanian products is politically based, and
its impact in the economy is insignificant.

“This is a political blockage. However, it is important to note that this has not stopped Albania to double its exports”, Panariti says.

The conflict started one year ago, when Moscow decided to stop Albanian exports, motivated by technical violations. The falsification of Albanian certificates by some EU countries has penalized Albania for the Russian market.

However, the Albanian exports to Russia have been insignificant. In 2013, according to INSTAT, the exports with Russia were 0.08%, in 2014 0.17%. Minister Panariti says that Albania aims to enlarge the map of exports with other countries.

“I will travel to Ukraine to sign an agreement for massive exports of fresh produce, including processed products from the Albanian agro-industry”, Panariti declared.

The Minister says that the challenge are still the European markets, who want higher security and quality standards.
