Russia bans import of Albanian vegetables

03/12/2014 00:00

Russia will stop importing vegetables from Albania after December 8th.
The news was made public by the Itar Tass news agency, which quotes the
Russian Head of Health Inspection.

According to Sergei Dankvert, this decision is taken since Albania has been used as cover for EU exports that have been banned by Russia. Russia claims that the decision was taken after a cooperation with the Albanian authorities.

They say that the investigations found that a company, based in the Czech Republic, was falsifying health certifications and those of the origin, which came from EU countries but were exported in Russia as Albanian for avoiding the embargo.

The Russian Agency of Health inspection claims that the Albanian authorities didn’t give them sufficient information for comparing the increasing Albanian imports with the local production.

The Russian authorities might soon take a decision for Macedonia, Bosnia and Switzerland.
