The former Albanian President, Alfred Moisiu, believes that the June
23rd elections is the chance to change Albania. In an interview for Top
Channel he says that the spirit that the opposition is close to coming
to power has already been created, but the rotation should be created to
build the missing rule of law for the Albanians.
“The Rotation must take place. Water that doesn’t run gets stinky, as the people says. But I’m not for that kind of rotation that when someone goes, another one comes. The rotation must come to build the rule of law, to build the judiciary and corruption with acts, not just words”, Mojsiu declared.
As for the electoral process, the former President considers the lack of a functional Central Election Commission as a large handicap that will create uncertainties.
“I was hoping for a change. But despite the appeals of the internationals, the stubbornness of the majority is inexplicable”, Moisiu declared.
However, the former President brings in attention 2011, when the Central Election Commission was used to change the result, although it was complete, so the only solution today is a massive voting.
“The Albanians must vote. Let’s not wait for America or Europe to solve our problems. The Albanians must resolve their problems, with their vote”, Moisiu declared.
Since the Central Election Commission doesn’t have the necessary votes to certify the final result, the former president is against those who think that this can be made by the electoral college.
“It cannot and it should not be done by the college. This is up to the Central Election Commission. The college cannot accept any request, because the college treats complaints after the Central Election Commission has reviewed them. If it does, this is a serious violation of a judiciary instruction”, Mojsiu declared.
On behalf of the Civil Forum that he leads, the former President Alfred Moisiu appealed the political parties, commissioners and the Prosecution to implement the law and avoid further incidents, since they have the fate of our country in their hands.
