The Romanian Prime Minister, Victor Ponta, is one of the supporters of Albania’s European Union integration.
Now that Rama is in power, known for his old friendship, the motivation seems even better.
“Romania supports Albania and its European path. I’m happy that after the June 23rd elections Rama won in his country. We know each other for a long time and we have both had a difficult time in opposition. Now that we are leading our countries, it is up to us to prove our abilities for the best of our people”, Ponta declared.
“I value the example given by the Prime Minister of Romania, showing that it is not only possible to face the crisis with success, not by damaging the people in difficulties, but on the contrary, by relieving them and by allowing an economic growth”, Rama declared.
Romania is one of the five European Union countries that has not recognized Kosovo’s independence yet, but recently, the position held by Prime Minister Viktor Ponta and the encouragement of Washington and Brussels is starting to change in favor of independence. This positive step was also noted by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
“I value the stance of the Prime Minister and of his government regarding Kosovo. Kosovo’s recognition from Romania is an extraordinary step for the region. We can hardly wait for this to happen, with the conviction that it will serve to peace and social-economic development in our region”, Rama declared.
During his visit in Bucharest, Prime Minister Edi Rama met with European homologues from Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia and Slovakia, whose support is necessary for the candidate status. But in this difficult economic period, Albania needs strong economic allies. For this reason, Prime Minister Edi Rama is focusing on the relations with China.
