Robbers top list of convictions

A recent study showed that 35.6% of the people who suffer the alternative conviction were found guilty for robbery. After them come the cultivators of narcotics, with 14.9% and document forgers with 10.5%.

The report says that there is an increase of the criminal cases about forgery during a judiciary process and also the domestic violence. There is an increased number of robbers aged 14-18.

“We need to do more for minors. There are cases when they have been mistreated and by the police without the knowledge and presence of a psychiatrist when they have been questioned.  Judges ad prosecutors also need to increase the number of alternative methods for minors”, declared the European Union Ambassador, Ettore Sequi.

While the ambassador reminded that Albania has received 40 million EUR for the prisons only through the IPA project, the Minister of Justice, Nasip Naco, declared that the alternative convictions have saved 15 million EUR to the Albanian state. However, Naco says that for the minors it is necessary to review the Criminal Code.

“The priority of the Ministry of Justice is reviewing the Code of Criminal Procedure, which will address changes even in the justice reform for minors, and also the security measures will change according to the best practices”, Naco declared.
