The European Parliament elections showed that voters in some main
European Union countries support the extremist moves which will be
represented in this important institution, which also warns a similar
trend in the future political elections in the respective countries.
How will this affect Albania and the candidate status? A few days before the European Union will see how our country has performed with the conditions, the government has started a lobbying tour for the European countries to give Albania the green light.
European study scholars, Gjergji Vumo and Gledis Gjipali, are optimistic about the European Union candidate status by Albania, despite the increasing tendency of the parties that are against the enlargement and against the European Union itself.
“The chances are the same, regardless of the recent developments in the European Parliament. It would have been better if this tour would have started a bit earlier with a wider extension”, Gjergji declared.
“The first visit of our Prime Minister with the German chancellor was the first but most positive signal. We have noted that other countries have softened their critics as regards the reforms. Countries such as Netherlands and Denmark are more positive about Albania, The visit of the Albanian government in these countries shows that the relations have been intensified”, declared Gledis Gjipali, director of the EMA.
A weak point of Albania is the judiciary reform and the fight against corruption.
“The government needs to offer concrete results. The focus is on the fight against corruption and organized crime. We have met silence about the Public Administration Reform, but maybe this is a plus for Albania”, Mr.Vrumo declared.
“Certainly that the main issues are related to the judiciary system reform, such as the fight against organized crime and corruption, which not only affect the status, but also for the opening of the negotiations”, Gjipali declared.
Experts think that many European Union countries have given positive signals, that’s why Albania might receive the status, but there is a tough job to do before this.
The Parliament with 751 seats is the only body selected by popular vote in the European Union. Despite the increased number of Euro-Sceptics, the big parties in favor fo the European Union will keep being in the center of the Parliament.
