Requests for foreign investigators on CEZ case

The draft law of the Democratic Party that makes way for an
international investigation of the CEZ affair is the first of this kind
that has ever been handed over at the Albanian Parliament.

The draft of the opposition makes it clear that this case should be investigated by international Prosecutors from the EU or the US.

The draft tasks the Prosecutor General to act for every agreement, and preserves the investigative secrecy so that it is not influenced by people in power, since the investigation of this case, according to the opposition, will involve the most important politicians in the country.

Lulzim Basha says this is the only credible way for a thorough and independent investigation of the CEZ affair. He gave this message after a meeting for one hour with the US Ambassador, but he refused to say what was their stance or if this initiative has their support.

“Let’s vote the law, give green light to Prosectors and international experts for investigating the biggest corruptive affair of this country”, Basha declared.

Lulzim Basha welcomes the support for an international investigation, and says that this draft law is being used to challenge Ilir Meta. The law requires 84 votes, and cannot be done without the Socialist Party. When asked why he addressed the invitation only to Meta, Basha says that the focus is on the SMI to show that the Meta stands behind the DIA company and the 135 million EUR agreement and the accusations against him are made by the media.

Basha must have discussed this issue with the US Ambassador, together with the decriminalization and the judiciary reform. Before meeting Basha, Lu was seen entering the Parliament’s Presidency Office, where he met for 30 minutes with the former Socialist Party Prime Minister, Pandeli Majko.
