A request for including the Albanian language as graduation test for
Albanian children in British schools has been submitted at the UK
Parliament. One of the most renowned Albanian associations in the UK,
“Shpresa Program”, led by Luljeta Nuzi, Parliament Members,
personalities from the civil society, businessmen and and
representatives of the Albanian community in Britain, underlined the
importance of this initiative and what the Albanian children will
benefit through this.

The initiative has started years ago and for making it official, the community needs a fund of 100,000 GBP that will make possible the recognition of the Albanian language in the curriculum of British schools. The associations have gathered 50,000 GBP so far from various donations.

The leader of the Socialist Party branch in London, Lavderim Krashi, declared that they have been able to collect 10,000 GBP from private donators, through the help of the Albanian Minister of Social Welfare and Labor, Erjon Veliaj.

The deadline for making the request official is November. The British Parliament Member, Stephen Timms, former Minister of the Labor government, and also one of the most voted Parliament Members in Britain after the Prime Minister, and friend of the Albanian people, declared for Top Channel that the meeting for this issue will be successful, based on the work done by the “Shpresa Program” through the years.

“Recognizing the Albanian language as a graduation test and collecting the necessary funds to do this is a very difficult challenge. I cannot say that it is done, but I believe that this initiative will be successful. I think that the determination and commitment to guarantee success is there”, declared the Parliament Member Stephen Timms for Top Channel.

The meeting at the British Parliament is the latest phase and maybe the most important in the “Shpresa Program”.
