The opening of schools in the midst of the coronavirus season is a dilemma of Albania as well as for the rest of the world.
Within this week the Committee of Experts is expected to meet, with the presence of the highest health officials and those of the Ministry of Education, who will decide what will be done on September 14, on whether the teaching will start in school or online. Surveys show that students and parents prefer teaching youth in the classroom, as they have no confidence in the effectiveness of the online procedure.
“We very much hope to go to school physically. In online learning we learned nothing. You can exit ‘Zoom’, say I do not have internet connection, copy through exams. I miss my friends, the teacher “, says a pupil.
A concerned parent also comments: “I had my daughter with 10 grades. The year they closed it she learned nothing. First it was the earthquake, then the New Year’s Eve, then online learning. They understood nothing. They look forward to going to school. I do not know how the first graders will do, or those who go to the first year. The teacher needs to be close to the student. Children need to be together, closed they are getting stressed”.
Experts say closing schools would leave indelible marks for an entire generation.
