Energy producers from water resources have sued the government after the latter’s decision to reduce the price at which the energy is purchased.

Engineer Anita Shushku said that the association of renewable energy producers is ready to take this issue to arbitration.

“Recently, the government has taken the decision of changing the methodology of calculating the purchase price for small energy producers, i.e. from hydropower plants, reducing the price by 10%, at a time when the effects this year are only at 7%.” she said.

Across the country there are dozens of small private hydropower plants on which over 600 million euros have been invested. They have contracted the energy produced to be bought by state-owned companies, but there has been a clash between them and the government over the sale price of the energy units.
