Religion, not a pretext for violent acts

In what can be considered the harshest critic against the Islamic
militants, the Pope declared that “no religious group that uses force
and oppression, cannot pretend to be the army of God”.

The Holy Father made this declaration from the Presidential Palace with the Albanian President Bujar Nishani, by considering our country as a model of inter-religious harmony, due to the good relations between Muslims and Christians.

“Don’t allow anyone to call themselves the force of God if they plan violence and oppression”, the Pope declared during his speech.

“No one should use religion for violence against the human dignity and against the basic rights of any man or woman, especially against the right to live and believe freely”, the Holy Father declared.

Pope Francis didn’t make any direct reference to the Islamic State militants, who have occupied territories in Syria and Iraq, but it was clear that his attention was on the Middle East.

The IS has announced a “caliphate” in the territories they control and have killed or cast out all Christians, Shiite Muslims and people of other religions who have not been submitted to their extreme version of Sunni Islam.

When asked about the Islamic State, the Pope supported the actions of the international community to stop the “unjust aggression”.
