Reforming AMA and TVSH

08/10/2013 00:00

The vice chairman of the Media Commission, Alfred Peza, demanded the starting of the
procedure for discharging Endira Bushati from her duty as head of the
Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA), and for dissolving the Radio
Television Leadhing Council. The new Council will then decide for the
new Albanian Public Television director.

The request of Parliament Member Peza is based on some aspects that are related not only with the conclusion of their mandates, but also for the weak performance and the many law violations identified so far. Bushati leads AMA against the law, by taking decisions through members whose mandate has expired. The remaining members, on the other hand, do not agree for the changes after the June 23rd elections, with AMA working for more than one year with less members than what is allowed, or with members whose mandates have expired.

The vice leader of the Media Commission, Mr.Peza, declared that Mrs.Bushati has showed extreme partiality by giving licenses to operators that were close to the former government, and by discriminating the market with unequal conditions. “Some national frequences have been invaded and legalized, while other have had their local licenses suspended, turning into soldiers of one media group”, Peza declared.
